Advantages of growing plants in a traditional garden with soil

There are different ways to grow plants, such as traditional and organic gardening, hydroponic gardening, Raised Bed Gardening, Vertical Gardening etc.

Traditional method, let you grow a garden of different foods or flowers in your backyard to utilize that open space and give it an amazing look to let you feel good every time you open your door.

Here some advantages of growing plants in a traditional garden with soil.

Helping the soil to grow plants

Traditional gardening helps the soil to grow more plants in a special way. Using traditional agriculture, most often people deeply cultivate the soil, that is, digging the earth is carried out at least on a bayonet shovel (about 30 cm).

When farming, the depth of cultivation is about 7-15 cm.
In a traditional garden, deep tillage with the addition of phosphates and organic fertilizers is carried out. For example, when laying a new bed, when organizing a compost bed.

However, digging even a bayonet shovel, it can not be called deep. In this case, the anaerobic soil layers are not affected, which means that microbes do not move.

However, this treatment increases the availability of moisture and air for roots and plants.

Moreover, a very important point: a deep digging should be carried out every 5-10 years in order to destroy the soil sole (compacted layer, impenetrable for plant roots), which can form at a depth of 30 cm (if they were digging all the time under the shovel).

The thickness of the anaerobic layer (in which there is oxygen) depends on the type of soil, but, as a rule, it is 30-40 cm.

That is, by digging 20-30 cm, we do not violate the structure of the soil, but improve it: it becomes more loose, lumpy and permeable.

And if you dig deeper and raise the anaerobic layers of the soil, then we violate the structure of the soil, but this happens quite rarely and does not bring much harm: the soil is restored.

Therefore, as already mentioned, deep tillage can be carried out once every 7-10 years.

Mineral fertilizers can fill up the plant nutrition quickly

In organic farming, you can not use fertilizers made chemically, as we call them mineral fertilizers (various nitrate, superphosphate, etc.). Traditional gardening involves the use of mineral fertilizers.

The advantages of mineral fertilizers are that they are concentrated and have a quick effect. At the same time, non-concentrated organics (compost, manure, etc.) need to be added a lot, and its effect is prolonged.

It is necessary to wait for the fertilizer to mineralize and become accessible to plants.

And if you make mineral fertilizers, we get the effects right away. That is, if we see some kind of lack of plant nutrition, we can’t quickly compensate for it with organics.

For example, we cannot immediately correct the calcium deficiency by introducing eggshells into the soil (it will work in a year); introducing calcium nitrate or other drugs, we immediately eliminate the disadvantage.

There are few side effects of mineral fertilizer if you don’t use it in a controlled way and right amount of doses. It may worsen the soil structure. Be sure to be aware of that.

Less cost

Unlike in the traditional crop, the hydroponic crop needs a higher investment. In a traditional garden, you can find it more cost-efficient than other methods comparatively.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are many expensive equipment that, due to ignorance, can be acquired at the beginning and not be so necessary to start.

Time efficient

In the hydroponic crop, you will have to control the water and the nutrients very frequently. While in a traditional garden, you can depend on soil nutrients and rainwater to grow your plants if there is no real emergency to do them manually.

Grow plants of your choice

In a traditional garden, it can be said that anything can be planted following the correct system. Unlike many other methods where you have to depend on different factors to grow your favorite plants.

Plants grow naturally

In traditional gardens, the plants usually grow when its time to grow. It doesn’t have to be enforced like urban gardening system. So the quality of the foods remains as it should be.

Natural water and air ventilation system

Farmers mostly depend on natural air ventilation, water drainage and sunlight to grow plants in a traditional way. This is how the plants can be grown with their full potentials.

Conclusion

Poor soil can destroy all your hard work if it’s really bad. Try to sow plants as they should not be too close to each other. Other than that you traditional gardening is always an ideal choice for the backyard.
